AI in Vocational Rehabilitation: Giving Counselors Time Back, Without Giving Up Control

VR counselors enter the profession to help people build careers. Too often, a large share of the day goes to documentation, data entry, and administrative follow-up instead.

AI can help with that. But for state agencies, the question isn’t only “does it work?” It’s “can we trust it, and can we audit it?”

AI that assists. People who approve.

At Libera, we built the AI capabilities in inFormed around one principle: AI assists, and staff stay in control. Every suggestion is reviewed by a person before anything moves forward. The system doesn’t make decisions that affect participants on its own.

That principle is backed by the safeguards agencies expect: role-based access and permissions, a full audit trail, and hosting in AWS GovCloud.

What this looks like in inFormed

  • Participant onboarding. Information shared in an interview can pre-populate case forms, so counselors can spend less time typing and more time with the participant. The counselor reviews, edits, and approves.
  • Invoice matching. Submitted invoices are matched against expected amounts, and a payment authorization is prepared for human approval. That means less manual processing and fewer opportunities for error.
  • Secure vendor messaging. Hoot, an always-on messaging service integrated into inFormed, gives the State, vendors, and participants a secure channel for two-way communication.

Compliance stays front and center

AI doesn’t replace the discipline of accurate reporting. DARE, Libera’s data analysis and report edit-checker, complements inFormed by catching RSA-911 errors early, before submission deadlines, so agencies can address issues before they become corrective action.

See it in person at CSAVR Fall

AI and its impact on VR is on the agenda in Frisco this year. Stop by the Libera booth, October 31 to November 4, to see how inFormed puts governed AI to work for VR agencies.
